On Wednesday, July 29 SOME will hold a Groundbreaking Ceremony for our new, multi-use, green building that will provide 202 units of affordable housing for homeless and very low-income families and individuals, a Medical and Dental Health Center operated by Unity Health Care, and SOME’s Center for Employment Training.
The facility will be the first in the District to combine affordable housing, job training and health care in a single location. Doing so will enable individuals and families to simultaneously address core challenges that they face: lack of affordable housing, unemployment and inadequate health care.
The building’s innovative architecture and landscaping will make it a community landmark that promotes revitalization and inspires students, residents, patients and neighbors. Among the building’s highlights are a two-story community room and private playground for families; a third-story courtyard for single adult residents; and an airy, three-story glass atrium for students.
SOME has been working with local and national public and private partners to create this first-of-its-kind project to facilitate the stability, economic independence, health and well-being of homeless and very low-income D.C. residents. Through our Building Hope Capital Campaign, SOME has already raised $16.6 million of the $20 million dollars needed to leverage approximately $70 million in approved public funding, tax credits, tax exempt bonds and low-interest loans.
Building Hope still needs to raise over $3 million to complete the project. Learn about the ways that you can help build hope.Share
